Step Back in Time to Life on the Lake
The City of Lake Geneva is located in southeastern Wisconsin, 10 miles north of the Illinois state line, 75 miles NNW of Chicago and 45 miles SW of Milwaukee. After the Great Chicago Fire, wealthy families, seeking refuge as Chicago was being rebuilt, tttconstructed palatial lakefront "cottages" on Geneva Lake. The construction and tttmaintenance of these mansions, as well as household employment, tttdeveloped into a separate industry in the town adding to the tttmilling, furniture, wagon and typewriter manufacturing enterprises.
Today the area still enjoys a strong tourism industry from Chicago and many families still live in the community. They are drawn not only to the beautiful lake and lake resort feel, but to great golf resorts, shopping, dining and spectacular events. Still the city has worked to preserve its small city atmosphere, reasonable cost of living and high quality of life as evidenced by the many historic neighborhoods, natural wooded areas and even old fashioned mail delivery to lake residents by boat! Geneva Lake is one of a tvery few developed lakes in America that has a public path along the shore tfor the entire distance around the lake which is entirely spring fed.
